The Light at the End of the Tunnel

I meant to write this blog earlier in the week, but it’s been a really busy time. I mentioned in my last blog post that the past few years have been rough. Well, the light at the end of the tunnel in many ways just hit. First, Opera Vista is in a really good place in that I couldn’t be prouder and more excited about the new board of directors coming on. I think we have the right mix of board members to really take the company to the next level. We also have a season put together that I am really excited about – Andy Pape’s Houdini the Great (Buy Tickets), Osvaldo Golijov’s Ainadamar (Buy Tickets), Matthew Peterson’s Voir Dire with the Vista Festival, and Daron Hagen’s New York Stories. It is going to be an exciting season. The big news is that I was offered and accepted the music directorship of The Skylight Music Theatre in Milwaukee, WI. I will be officially taking over on July 1, 2013. I couldn’t be more excited and honored. I have some big shoes to fill in taking over from Bill Theisen. I will be following artistic directors such as Francesca Zambello and Stephen Wadsworth! (No pressure!) The staff at the Skylight is truly amazing. I am more and more excited each time I talk with them. All in all, I’m still a bit amazed! It hasn’t quite sunk in yet.

I spent last week in Milwaukee meeting with the board, major donors, and the community. I have to admit it was a whirlwind tour. I wish I had a chance to really get to know everyone, but that will come in time. I did a bit of condo/house hunting, though that all will be more pressing in May/June of next year. You can read more about the announcement on the Skylight page that was created for it.

Right now, I’m in Boston and soon to head to upstate New York for the Indiaspora forum. I am greatly honored and excited to take part and am thankful to MR Rangaswami for the invitation. I will look forward to writing about that (hopefully this weekend).

Below is a picture of the Cabot Theatre and the cool Skylight jersey – luckily Duke’s colors and Skylight’s colors are the same!
